Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Music Festival
East Port
Ballyshannon
Donegal
Phone: 72 51088
Fax: 72 52832
First held in 1978 this festival now stands alone in that it is the only music festival of its kind in Ireland. For a number of years the west coast was a mecca for music lovers with festivals almost every weekend throughout the summer but now Ballyshannon is the only remaining festival on the folk and traditional scene.
Description
Description
Description
The festival is organized by 9 or 10 people on a purely voluntary basis, and perhaps the reason for the success is that it is non - commercial and non - profit making.
The main aims of the festival is to promote traditional and folk music and to attract people to Ballyshannon.
The festival is committed to its street entertainment programme - ensuring a round the clock open air and FREE litany of high quality entertainment all weekend.
Ballyshannon Folk Festival has succeeded in firmly establishing itself as one of the country's premier musical events. In a country that is laced with festivals throughout the year - in every village, town and city, this is some indication of the popularity and calibre of this event.
