The rugged Donegal highlands may be one of the bleakest places in Ireland, but in a secluded valley beside a mountain lough is a most remarkable garden.

Description
Description
The castle was built in the years 1870-1873 and consists of a four storey rectangular keep. Access to the interior is by tour only.
The gardens, created by Henry McIlhenny from Philadelphia, are part of Glenveagh National Park. Woodland gardens and pleasure grounds, Italian and Belgian gardens, terraces with antique sculpture and terracotta pots, all of these themes have been skillfully interwoven against the beautiful Donegal landscape. There are Rhodendrons in flower from March to May, there is a display of flowers, vegetables and fruit in "Jardin potager" from June to September.
There is a restaurant at the Visitor Centre and there are tea rooms at the Castle.
There are NRB approved facilities for the disabled in the site.
